Tree in me

Willow willow that I see

Swing high above me

Smelling like a fresh town

Feeling rough and let down

Willow willow that I hear

Crying softly in my ear

I wish I could taste your swinging vines

But instead I hear your cries

Willow willow hollowed hole

Look inside and it beholds

That willow willow willow tree

Way deep down that tree is me

Reading and writing critically 1

When you take a selfie do you think anything of it? When you post pictures of your Family, Friends, Etc do you think about what it means? You may not have an answer to the questioned asked above, but Jill Walker Rettberg does. According to the article “Seeing Ourselves Threw Technology.” When you post photo you are making a visual expression of identity. To me I think that it’s a pretty good way to describe selfies, but to go as far as saying that it’s a visual of our identities I wouldn’t think that. I wouldn’t say this, because some photos are just things that are randomly posted. I would say that the things that you post have somethings do with your identity but not you as a person. Rettberg mentioned that artist show themselves in all their art , and its true one of my favorite artist is Pablo Picasso I reference him a lot but he is a great artist to reference, because in every art piece of his you feel something in it whether its his blue period or cubism you feel what he is going through. I think that all in all reading this chapter it gives me a lot to bounce off of, and opens your mind.

Key Terms and Main idea

Digital self-representation: The act of representing ones self

Digital self-representation: The act of representing ones self threw technology?

Race can affect what you post?

you need to see someone feed in order to understand them

profile pictures are a visual expression of identity

Commentary: I thought it was kinda weird how Rettberg used the term visual expression of identity, because to me I’d have to disagree i think they represent us but not as identification. If you’re like me my profile picture is of me holding a CPR infant doll to my face with the caption “my child” on it so I don’t think I identity myself as a CPR infant doll lol. I also think it is weird how she brought up the fact that you have to see someones feed to analyze them, because who is just going on Facebook and thinking. HMMM who can I analyze today. It’s sounds really suspeicous and creepy if you ask me, or it could be the fact that it is 3am in the morning and I just got home from work and am very sleep deprived but still trying to finish my notes for tomorrow.

response

I’ve taken a good 16 hours to think about the article we read in class and I would say that to me when it says filters all that keeps coming to mind is coffee filters. Coffee filters crazy right, but it makes perfect since to me the coffee filter is designed so you wont have coffee grounds in your cup. Now to break it down more. Coffee ground would be everything you don’t want people seeing like bad acne or your true colors. Like who you really are inside. The filter would be the way you choose to funnel that stuff out or the things you don’t like about yourself, and the coffee would be the perfect picture that you think you’re supposed to look like or think like. I know that my understanding isn’t the same as everyone, but like I said it makes the most since to me.

Seeing Ourselves Through technology chapter 2

Commentary : in chapter two the author talks a lot about filters. Author Jill walker Rettberg talks a lot about filter that you can see with your eyes and some that are in a rhetorical since. like coffee filters you use them to keep the grounds out of your cup, but if you look at it in a philosophical way its so much more. wit coffee grounds you essentially putting a threshold between the thing you want and the thing that you don’t much like when posting online you wouldn’t want your fans or followers seeing something they don’t want so you put a threshold on the real you and the cyber you comes out.

Connection: the best thing i can connect this to would be snapchat. snapchat because you see a lot of people using filters with their snaps. looking at it in surface area people think that the filter is funny or silly sometimes maybe cute. they may send one trying to goof off with their friends, but what if that s not the case ? imagine a world where everyone was comfortable it their skin and they didn’t need to put “TOUCH UPS” on photos? Do you got it? Good! Now imagine the complete different thing and you have todays society. i used this connection because to me it helps me understand it better people use technology for conformation and acceptance.

Poems

so this blog is supposed to be for school i think but hits is a poem I wrote I tend to do that a lot guess lol hope you enjoy 🙂

Stay Awhile

I wake up with you not there

I close my eyes and I feel tears

Not wishing to hear what I hear

The smell of loneliness in the air

I get out of bed and taste the anger

I walk down stairs awake but still sleeping

Wishing I could go back to dreaming

The Air is filled with sadness not smilesMy mind whispers stay awhile

Reflection

I would have to say that this article got me thinking a lot about the things that we don’t normally think about. It has me thinking about what I touched on in my previous notes about different fads and how they’re cool on second and then 3 months later they aren’t. The article makes me think about this because of  how it mentioned that blogs are short lived. Meaning they’re on here for such a short period of time and then they just are abonadend like a toy you don’t play with anymore. Lamba used the term “ out of sight out of mind.” (1) I think that that’s with a lot of things in society, and he used it to describe how blogs are another form of journalism or news reports the only difference is that they are uncensored. Like some blogs during 911 showed people actually jumping out of the buildings as the buildings were crashing down. I think that for me that says a lot about people that blog. It says that they are willing to show you the truth when no one else will, and that they want you to know what is going on in the world or what is happening outside of your safe and collective life. In a short term people that blog are WOKE. They see what’s happening and what’s being done and they want to do more. That to me just leaves me with the question why? If you’re this into society and you’re giving the people what they want then why? Why stop blogging? I guess we’ll never know!

Imagining the blogosphere

Commentary: To star off I would say that the words the author uses are very confusing but I managed. I’d like to touch more on the point in the article where Lampa said that some people will only post on blogs once and then the author throws a bunch of statistics at us. I wanna touch more on this because the author uses a term outta sight outta mind. Which is like everything that someone discovers its cool for a while then its not anymore. I think that making this connections is a good one because its true most people make blogs and they only post once and boom they’re gone, unless you’re in a class were your grade depends on some of the things you post on your blogs lol. I like the fact that the author did bring up the point of main stream news and how blogs make things that are just forgot come back to the eye of the public.

Making Connection: I would think that blogs remind me a lot of fads because they’re cool for a while but then they aren’t any more. I say this because when i think of bogs i often think of different fads that went on and aren’t cool anymore like the fidget spinner or the YO-YO or the hackie sack just like these toys blogs are the same you find a subject you want to create a blog about but then the subject just isn’t cool anymore, and its not the blogs fault its just that the topic has out played itself. i would questioned as to why this happens but its as simple as breathing. some blogs just aren’t as cool.

response

My response to the article we read would be that it makes a lot of since the you think about it, because everyone finds themselves messing up on simple things like that. The thing I think in the article i mess up on the most would have to be the quotes I’ll find a really good quote to put into one of my papers the n forget to explain where I got the quote or what it even has to do with what i’m writing about. I like the idea of quotes but I’d have to disagree with one tiny part in there would be starting and ending your paragraph with a quote. I disagree with this because the start of a paragraph is supposed to get your audience hooked and into what you’re talking about, and the end is to send them off thinking about whatever you were walking about. My english teacher in high school would always tell me never start or end your paragraphs with a quote because if you pick the wrong one then you leave your audience uninterested. The one thing i think about the most the reading this is when Mr.Smith would tell us to “Know what you write and if you don’t know it LEARN it.” I think about this the most because its important to write what you know you never want to just write something that would turn out to be false, and the second part where he says to learn what yo udon;t know so you can write it. This I think is a key part of writing you have to be willing to learn what you don’t know so you will become a better writer. Like when we were introduced MLA format my sophomore year. Sure it was tough learning how to cite your sources and how to format your paper, but if I didn’t learn it then I would be totally lost while learning it now. I’ll let you guys in on a little secret I’m glad I did learn it because I us it majority of the time now. For everything when writing a paper. its been imbedded in my brain for 4 years now and I’m still learning new things about it ! Like the quotes we were doing in class I never new that that was the correct way to cite a quote until now. well Partially I knew that you needed to give credit to the author and to put it in quotation marks and to put the period inside the quotation marks but I go lost at the page citing and all that.

Annoying ways people use sources

Summary : I was a little confused at the beginning but then I think I started to get it. Its to my understanding that this article was talking about how not to screw up, and different ways to use source and if you do, how to fix them. He made some interesting points about how to find if you’re messing up on a source and how to fix it. The author brought up using quotations which I know many people have trouble with, including myself. Kyle D. Stedman state that the greatest fix to this is to simply just ease your way into it. Explain the quote before you use the quote other wise your audience is left dangling.

Connection: The connection I would make is that it reminds me of the my old english teacher. Mr.Smith use to tell us you need to add some “Meat and Potatoes.” Meaning you have to add some depth into what you’re writing, but not just that you need to make sure you stick to the recipe. Meaning all your facts are right and secure; You didn’t add anything extra to it. He would reference writing a paper like cooking dinner you wanna make sure you know what you’re making. Mr.Smith would tell us the same for writing a paper write what you know and know what you write. To me this is a good connection, because you always want to know what you’re doing in the kitchen and while writing a report.
